Sledding in Bucks County

Posted: January 02, 2019 by Cynthia Rundatz

Even though we haven’t had more than a flake at this time of year we look forward to all the fun we can find. Though Bucks County is a great place to cross country ski – we are not exactly renowned for our slopes.

Among the local sledding enthusiasts the best sledding is to be found close to our office at Magill’s Park or “Suicide Hill”  here in New Hope.  Magill’s Hill is a 5-acre site that consists of steeply sloped hills which can be used for sledding or other winter activities.  It’s located just outside of New Hope where River Road bends to the left and crosses over the Delaware Canal (just past the ramps for the Route 202 bypass).

Next is the Mercer Museum Sledding Hill; arguably the most popular sledding hill in Doylestown Borough.  According to Doylestown Borough sledders often it’s central and well known location means that it’s often rubbed clean of snow early.

Tyler Park has a popular spot below the Upper Plantation Picnic Area parking lot and the slopes west of the covered bridge. This location is great for sledding and tobogganing when conditions permit.

In Upper Bucks Nockamixon Park has an area above the marina which is used for sledding and tobogganing.

While not in Bucks County Belle Mountain, just south of Lambertville NJ is just a short distance away. Bell Mountain used to operate as a small ski resort and has some great hills.

Stay warm, stay safe and only sled during the day or in well-lit areas away from roads!
